Died once in the tutorial because I am not good at shooters but made a clean route through the first sandbox area. It’s a good game! So much personality, and I already like the main characters much more than the dour Dishonored crew
@alex the Dishonored replayer has logged on.... would like to hear how the gameplay/controls compare too
(I was gonna be like "I don't know how I feel about being stuck in a timeloop" and then I remembered that I am on my... 8th? 9th? Mass Effect playthrough and have played each Dishonored game probably 4x with the weirder DLCs maybe 2x...)
@platypus it doesn’t *feel* too timeloopy, it’s more…… roguelite? I dunno, there’s good risk and reward at play. Guns jam, stealth feels good, you have the feeling of accomplishment getting back to home base after getting some “work” done (weapons and collectibles and intel all persist as long as you make it back to the exit in a run)
@platypus the loops only happen when you die (as far as I know, having played the first stage) so it feels more like an old school game with replayable levels instead of a strict loop situation
@alex oh that’s good! I can see how this could work well because of the way death works. Are there gamesaves?
@platypus autosave only, definitely not the savescumming-friendly design of dishonored, because the explicitly point is to play the same levels repeatedly but with a better load out/more intel that you’ve gathered in precious attempts. Notes/codes/intel persist even if you die
@alex yeah that’s I guess what I expected. I’ll miss the quicksaves. But glad codes/etc and such persist. Seems like an advantage would be trying different route and so knowing you don’t have to retrace steps to pick up a code/etc is good.
@platypus also, no pacifist play throughs in this one. But (premise spoiler) the people you kill don’t really die, per se
@alex being me, I feel like I’ll play this over Christmas holiday maybe because right now I am so Fallout brain.
