adding more yellow (hansa and oxide) with a baby fan brush bc I thought another layer might help sell this painting. I like how it makes it look like some of the trees are being consumed. More trees to come

the little specks floating under the moon are birds in the reference pic. My wife thought it looked like flying burning debris

it might need more highlights. Shoot. Can't decide.

The original painting, which I like very much, has some very bright highlights and rougher brush work. This one is more polished and smoother.

Early on, I used these cheap, thick, stiff-bristled brushes and the bristles would break and I felt like as they got rattier, it made the brush strokes more random and naturalistic

ok I think that's a finished painting. I've fiddled with it enough
